7 Reasons to Choose VMware

Here’s why the VMware Cloud Foundation future-ready, full-stack hybrid and multi-cloud solution is ideal for your organization:

  1. VMware Cloud Foundation is an integrated, software-defined solution with built-in automated lifecycle management that combines virtualized services for compute, storage, networking, security, and cloud management. It delivers consistent infrastructure for private, hybrid, and multi-cloud demands.

  2. Kubernetes is now delivered as part of VMware Cloud Foundation with VMware Tanzu, delivering full-stack, developer-ready infrastructure with a standard Kubernetes API for programmatic consumption of compute, network, storage, and security services.

  3. IT operations teams—who have different priorities, skill sets, and preferences than developers—can offer developer-ready infrastructure while gaining observability and troubleshooting for Kubernetes workloads.

  4. VMware solutions included in the full-stack hybrid cloud are now optimized for Kubernetes. As a result, IT can configure an enterprise-grade Kubernetes infrastructure with integrated networking and storage within an hour. 5. With built-in Kubernetes, any environment based on vSphere with Tanzu now natively supports both VM and container workloads as first-class citizens.

  5. The same VMware Cloud Foundation stack is available as a VMware managed service—with VMware Cloud on AWS, in your data center, or with hosted providers.

  6. VMware powers your multi-cloud strategy with leading public cloud providers offering hybrid-compatible services based on the same VMware Cloud stack, including Google Cloud VMware Engine, IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions, Microsoft Azure VMware Solution, and Oracle Cloud VMware Solution. And over 200 VMware Cloud Provider Program Partners offer VMware Cloud Verified hybrid cloud services on the same VMware Cloud stack.

VMware Cloud Foundation Components

Over the past two years, VMware has been on a journey to simplify its portfolio and transition from a perpetual to a subscription model to serve customers with continuous innovation, faster time to value, and predictable investments. VMware Cloud Foundation is built on trusted VMware technologies for compute, storage, networking, and cloud management. These technologies are the building blocks of a full software-defined data center, integrating all of these capabilities into a single platform that is easy to consume.

For storage, Cloud Foundation uses VMware vSAN and vVOLs. VSAN delivers high-performance, highly scalable storage embedded in the hypervisor that is based on a hyper-converged architecture that can support all-flash or hybrid storage and provides data services such as deduplication and compression, as well as data protection and replication. It eliminates the need for external shared storage and simplifies storage configuration and virtual machine provisioning.

Cloud Foundation also virtualizes networking and security. VMware NSX is the network virtualization and security platform that enables the virtual cloud network, a software-defined approach to networking that extends across data centers, clouds, and application frameworks. Just as vSphere has changed the operational model for VMs, NSX allows networks to be provisioned and managed independently of the underlying hardware. NSX reproduces the entire network model in software, enabling any network topology—from simple to complex multi-tier networks—to be created and provisioned in seconds. Data center operators can now achieve levels of agility, security, and economics that were previously unattainable when manually maintaining physical networks and security components.

Cloud Foundation makes IT infrastructure incredibly easy to deploy and manage with SDDC Manager. SDDC Manager is unique to Cloud Foundation; it automates the entire system lifecycle (from configuration and provisioning to upgrades and patching) and simplifies day-to-day management and operations. SDDC Manager allows customers to leverage all the benefits of a cloud operating model, in an on-premises deployment.

vSphere with Tanzu transforms vSphere to a platform for running Kubernetes workloads natively on the hypervisor layer together with virtual machines within dedicated resource pools. Cloud Foundation with Tanzu further expands vSphere with Tanzu capabilities, allowing IT operators to dynamically provision and scale developer-ready compute, storage, networking, and security infrastructure.

SDDC Manager deploys the vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager and creates a two-way communication channel between SDDC Manager and the vRealize Suite components installed.
